Phototherapy involves the use of light (311-312nm) to treat certain skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, cutaneous T cell lymphoma and severe generalized itching.

How is the phototherapy treatment performed?

Phototherapy involves using an upright cabinet (light box) that you stand inside. Usually treatment is required three times per week. Treatment does not take long (usually seconds to minutes), but increases in time slightly with each treatment. Usually 15-20 treatments are required for clearance, but this varies depending on the condition being managed. Our highly trained Dermatology Nurses will assist you during your phototherapy treatment sessions.

What are the side effects of phototherapy?

Side effects are uncommon but may include skin burning (like a sunburn). If light treatment is performed continuously for many years it is possible that it may increase the amount of UV light a person is exposed to and hence increase skin ageing and skin cancer formation.
